Ask HN: I'm hesitant to helping colleagues, why?

I have a couple of fantastic colleagues that are always willing to help and have built a large base of connections and influence. Their connections are helping them always know the latest news in the company and be exposed to more opportunities. They also get a much preferable yearly evaluation. On top of the benefits above, my definition of a good person includes helping others. But, every time someone asks me for help, or sometimes when I find an informative article, I'm hesitant to sharing it and helping others. Anybody had the same issue? What could be the causes?
