I fully understand that third-year medical students should be given this opportunity. That's what ultimately we expect them to do. That how you are prepared as a clinician. As a third-year All Saints University College of Medicine, I completely agree with you on this. Medical students can provide helpful services under supervision. However, my humble opinion is that their priority perhaps should be more weighted towards learning the fundamentals of medicine, which cannot be well taught in a crisis.
